Walk or run together as a family, or encourage your kids to complete their very first marathon (with your help along the way). The St. Jude Memphis Family Race and Kids Marathon offers a great opportunity to set and reach family fitness goals together while teaching your kids an invaluable lesson in giving and helping others by fundraising to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Reach the finish line as a family and a St. Jude Heroes team.
Participating families can include even their littlest ones aged 11 and younger (strollers welcome—pushed by a participating parent, of course). And every family who signs up for the Family Race will have the opportunity to participate as a St. Jude Heroes team. Just click “Yes” when asked if you would like to be a St. Jude Hero when registering. The family that has fun together can raise funds together!

All about Heroes
Each family that participates in the St. Jude Memphis Family Race and Kids Marathon has the option of participating as a St. Jude Heroes team. This means you will have the opportunity for your family to help the families of St. Jude. As a St. Jude Heroes team, each family will receive their very own St. Jude Heroes fundraising website in order to email friends and family members. This will allow your family to raise funds to support the mission of St. Jude. There is not a fundraising minimum, but we ask families to go the extra mile for St. Jude. Each family team can set a goal by using our
St. Jude cost sheet, which shows examples of how your fundraising can help St. Jude provide lifesaving care to our patients.

Turn "I think I can" into "I know I can!" (How? One mile at a time.)
In the weeks leading up to race day, your child can complete most of the marathon by walking or running, one mile at a time, before the race. Then on race day, they will finish the Family Race and Kids Marathon final mile, crossing the finish line together with you or a specified guardian of legal age in AutoZone Park. To get started and keep your kids on track, download the Official Mileage Tracker. For the Kids Marathon option, children can set their goal to walk/run 25.2 miles for the full marathon or 12.1 miles for the half marathon.

It's more than just a fun and healthy activity together.
It's families helping families and children in communities everywhere.
Remember, the Family Race and Kids Marathon is designed for children up to age 11 as long as they participate with a parent or approved guardian. So come join the family fun, and help the families of St. Jude!

Here is how the optional half marathon/marathon works:

Step 1 Parents register.
Step 2 Download the Training Plans (eight week and 12 week options) and Official Mileage Tracker.
Step 3 Find a safe place to train and follow your training plan. Run or walk 12.1 or 25.2 miles before race day. Track your mileage on the Official Mileage Tracker and have a parent/guardian sign it.
Step 4 Complete the final mile with your family at the St. Jude Memphis Family Race on December 3, 2011.
Step 5 Submit the Official Mileage Tracker no later than Monday, December 12, 2011, in order to receive the certificate of completion.

Don't forget to log on to your St. Jude Heroes website to ask friends and family for donations.
